A subset \(Y\) of a Banach space \(X\) is said to be proximinal if, for every \(x \in X\), there is a \(y \in Y\) such that \(\|x - y\| = \mathrm{dist}(x,Y)\). In his brilliant paper [``Banach spaces with no proximinal subspaces of codimension 2'', Preprint (2013), \url{arXiv:1307.7958}, Isr. J. Math. 223, 493--504 (2018; Zbl 1397.46010)], \textit{C. J. Read} constructed an equivalent norm \({|||\cdot|||}\) on \(c_0\) such that the space \((c_0, {|||\cdot|||})\) does not have finite-codimensional proximinal subspaces of codimension greater than or equal to \(2\), thus solving a long-standing open problem by \textit{I. Singer} [The theory of best approximation and functional analysis. Philadelphia/PA: SIAM (1974; Zbl 0291.41020)]. In the paper under review, the author demonstrates in a clever way that the same space gives a negative solution to the following problem by \textit{G. Godefroy} [Extr. Math. 16, No. 1, 1--25 (2001; Zbl 0986.46009), Problem III]: Is it true that for every infinite-dimensional Banach space \(X\) the set \(NA(X) \subset X^*\) of norm-attaining functionals contains a two-dimensional linear subspace?
