The paper contains several results concerning the question of whether every subspace \(X\) of an \(L_p(\nu)\)-space isomorphically embeds to some \(L_p(\mu)\)-space with a finite measure \(\mu\), once \(X\) does not contain a subspace isomorphic to \(\ell_p(\aleph_1)\). Theorem~1, in particular, asserts that the answer is affirmative for \(1 \leq p < 2\), and Corollary~1 of Theorem~3 asserts the same answer for \(2 < p < \infty\) and complemented subspaces \(X\) of \(L_p(\nu)\). Theorem~2 generalizes Theorem~1 for higher cardinals. Namely, let \(X\) be a subspace of an \(L_p(\nu)\)-space, \(1 \leq p < 2\) and \(\aleph\) be an uncountable cardinal. Then the following are equivalent. (1) For every \(\varepsilon > 0\), the space \(\ell_p(\aleph)\) is \((1+\varepsilon)\)-isomorphic to a subspace of \(X\). (2) There is a complemented in \(L_p(\nu)\) subspace of \(X\) isomorphic to \(\ell_p(\aleph)\). (3) \(\ell_p(\aleph)\) isomorphically embeds into \(X\). (4) \(X\) does not isomorphically embed into an \(\ell_p\)-sum of \(L_p(\mu_i)\)-spaces with finite measures \(\mu_i\), \(i \in I\) and \(|I| < \aleph\). | |||
