The authors prove the existence of several periodic solutions for a system of second order differential equations with asymmetric nonlinearities. Using a version of the Poincaré-Birkhoff fixed point theorem by Fonda and Urenã, they are able to generalize previous results by Lazer and McKenna, and by Del Pino, Manasevich and Murua, obtained for a single scalar equation. The authors also provide explicit computations of the number of periodic solutions in some specific cases, showing that their main theorem can be easily applied to concrete situations.
