The system of non-stationary incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with zero external force in a 3D bounded, smooth domain is considered. The problem is studied either with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions or with Navier slip boundary conditions. Since results concerning the uniqueness of weak solutions for the previous problem are not known, it is possible that the weak solutions constructed with different methods do not satisfy the local energy inequality. The authors of this article prove that weak solutions obtained as limit of solutions to the Navier-Stokes-Voigt model satisfy the local energy inequality. In addition, some regularity results for the pressure are also established. The last part of the article deals with Navier-Stokes and Navier-Stokes-Voigt equations corresponding to the space-periodic case. In this case it is proved that it is possible to construct suitable weak solutions (i.e., pairs velocity-pressure with certain regularity, satisfying the local energy estimate in a distributional sense) by means of a Fourier-Galerkin method.
