In the usual form of isoclinism for groups, two groups, \(G\) and \(H\), are isoclinic if there are two isomorphisms from \(G/Z(G)\) to \(H/Z(H)\), and from \([G,G]\) to \([H,H]\), which are compatible with the commutator map. Using appropriate analogues of the notion of commutator and centre for crossed modules/cat\(^1\)-groups (as in \textit{K. Norrie}'s 1987 thesis and paper [Bull. Soc. Math. Fr. 118, No. 2, 129--146 (1990; Zbl 0719.20018)]), the authors develop a notion of isoclinism for crossed modules. Various properties of this extended notion of isoclinism are studied and an algorithm given for checking if two crossed modules are isoclinic. Illustrations of its use, implemented in GAP, are given and the classification of small order crossed modules into isoclinism classes is presented.
