In the last 50 years, Donald Barnes has developed many results on the theory of finite dimensional Lie algebras. In this paper, he has extended some of his results to \(n\)-Lie algebras. For example, the \(n\)-Lie algebra version of Engel subalgebras is developed and used to show results on Cartan subalgebras, nilpotency and conjugacy.
