Green's syzygy conjecture for a canonically embedded curve \(C \subseteq \mathbb{P}^{g-1}\) asserts that the Clifford index of \(C\) is related to the shape of the minimal free resolution of its homogeneous coordinate ring \textit{Green} [J. Differ. Geom. 19, 125-167, 168-171 (1984; Zbl 0559.14008)] and \textit{M. Green} and \textit{R. Lazarsfeld} [Invent. Math. 83, 73--90 (1986; Zbl 0594.14010)]. In [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 347, No. 3, 719--756 (1995; Zbl 0853.14016)], \textit{D. Bayer} and \textit{D. Eisenbud}, formulated an analogous conjecture for ribbon curves. In the article under review, the author uses known results in the direction of Green's conjecture, for example \textit{A. Hirschowitz} and \textit{S. Ramanan} [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 31, No. 2, 145--152 (1998; Zbl 0923.14017)], \textit{C. Voisin} [J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 4, No. 4, 363--404 (2002; Zbl 1080.14525); Compos. Math. 141, No. 5, 1163--1190 (2005; Zbl 1083.14038)], to establish the syzygy conjecture for ribbons as formulated by Bayer and Eisenbud. As one consequence of the author's main result, it follows that Green's syzygy conjecture, for canonically embedded curves, holds true for general curves of a given genus and Clifford index.
