Let \(p\) be a prime and \((K,\mathcal{O},k)\) be a \(p\)-modular system where \(k\) is an algebraically closed field. In 1980, Peter Donovan conjectured that, for each finite \(p\)-group \(D\), there are only finitely many Morita equivalence classes amongst the \(kG\)-blocks for finite groups \(G\) with defect groups isomorphic to \(D\) (see [\textit{J. L. Alperin}, Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 37, 369--375 (1980; Zbl 0449.20019)]). This conjecture has been proved for a range of special cases. The main theorem of the present paper is as follows. (Theorem 3.2): If \(B\) is a block of \(\mathcal{O}G\) where \(G\) is a finite group, and \(B\) has defect group of the form \(D\cong C_{2}^{n}\times C_{2}\times C_{2}\) for some \(n>1\), then \(B\) is Morita equivalent to the principal block for one of \(\mathcal{O}(C_{2}^{n}\times C_{2}\times C_{2})\), \(\mathcal{O}(C_{2}^{n}\times A_{4})\) or \(\mathcal{O}(C_{2}^{n}\times A_{5})\). Using work by several authors (see [\textit{C. W. Eaton} et al., Adv. Math. 254, 706--735 (2014; Zbl 1341.20006); \textit{C. W. Eaton}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 144, No. 5, 1961--1970 (2016; Zbl 1339.20008); \textit{C. Wu} et al., J. Algebra 510, 469--498 (2018; Zbl 1403.20013)]) and their main theorem the authors complete the Morita classification for abelian defect groups of rank \(3\) for the prime \(2\) as follows. If the defect group \(D\) of a block \(B\) of \(\mathcal{O}G\) is an abelian \(2\)-group of rank at most \(3\), then \(B\) is Morita equivalent to the principal block of \(\mathcal{O}H\) where \(H\) is one of: \(D\), \(D\rtimes C_{3}\), \(C_{2}^{n}\times A_{5}\) (with \(n\geq0\)), \(D\rtimes C_{7}\), \(\mathrm{SL}_{2}(8)\), \(D\rtimes(C_{7}\rtimes C_{3})\), \(J_{1}\) or \(\Aut(\mathrm{SL}_{2}(8))\). A result related to a conjecture of Broué is also proved.
