The authors study a class of nonautonomous Hamiltonian systems. By using minimax methods in critical point theory, an existence result for nontrivial T-periodic solutions is obtained which unifies and generalizes Theorem 0.1 in [\textit{P. L. Felmer}, J. Differ. Equations 102, No. 1, 188--207 (1993; Zbl 0781.34034)], Theorem 2.49 in [\textit{P. H. Rabinowitz}, J. Differ. Equations 50, 33--48 (1983; Zbl 0528.58028)] and Corollary 1.5 in [\textit{P. H. Rabinowitz}, Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 33, 609--633 (1980; Zbl 0425.34024)]. The second result states the existence of infinitely many distinct subharmonic solutions.
