The paper considers the numerical solution of a linear dispersive equation with a variable advection coefficient with transparent boundary conditions. In time, a splitting scheme is proposed with second order accuracy and the stability is analyzed. In space, a Legendre spectral method under the Petrov-Galerkin formulation is designed, and the detailed fast implementation is given. Numerical results verify the temporal and spatial accuracy of the proposed method.
