Let \(X_0\) be a point and \(L_0\) a trivial line bundle over \(X_0\). Set \(X_1=\mathbb{P}(\mathcal{O}_{X_0} \oplus L_0)\). Considering \(L_1\) a line bundle over \(X_1\) we get similarly \(X_2=\mathbb{P}(\mathcal{O}_{X_1} \oplus L_1)\) and recursively one can repeat this proccess \(r\)-times, via choices of line bundles \(L_i\), to get a \textit{Bott tower} \[ X_r \to X_{r-1} \to \dots \to X_1 \to X_0 \] Every \(X_i\) is shown to be a smooth projective toric variety and the paper under review use toric geometry techniques to describe certain properties of Bott towers. In particular the Mori and nef cone of Bott towers are studied and Fano, weak Fano and log Fano Bott towers are characterized. As a consequence, vanishing results for the cohomology of Fano Bott towers are presented.
