The authors investigate the so-called Flamant-Boussinesq problem for a half-space of a homogeneous and isotropic dielectric. The problems is concerned with the response of bodies in gradient elasticity to concentrated surface line loads. The dynamical flexoelectric effect, the dynamical flexocoupling between displacement and polarization, due to mechanical and electrical interactions, and micro-inertia are taken in consideration. The half-space is excited with a surface mechanical wave that decays with time. The system of governing equations involves: (i) the equation of motion with dynamical polarization and micro-inertia effects; (ii) the dynamical equation expressing intramolecular force balance; (iii) the equation of electrodynamics expressing the vanishing of the electric displacement vector under no volume charges. These equations were previously deduced from a variational principle. Concrete mechanical and electrical boundary conditions are set on the boundary of the half-space. A bounded analytical harmonic wave solution is obtained. The results are analyzed and discussed. Plots are provided for the quantities of practical interest for different choices of material parameters, to illustrate their effect on the behavior of the solution. It is found, in particular, that the micro-inertia term has a significant effect on the wave propagation of physical fields.
