The theory of derivations has been extensively applied in affine algebraic geometry, particularly in the study of affine varieties. The Makar-Limanov invariant, which concerns derivations, is a powerful tool for distinguishing affine varieties from affine spaces. The rigidity of a \(k\)-domain, which refers to the absence of nonzero locally nilpotent derivations, is an important property for understanding the structure of automorphism groups of affine varieties. Previous research has explored the rigidity of various types of affine varieties, such as Pham-Brieskorn hypersurfaces and trinomial varieties. Techniques have been developed to study the rigidity of \(k\)-domains, including the use of Mason's theorem and investigations of locally nilpotent derivations of simple algebraic extensions. Building on previous work, The authors aim to improve the techniques for determining the rigidity of \(k\)-domains. They generalize the ABC theorem, study locally nilpotent derivations of simple algebraic extensions \(R[z]\) of a \(k\)-domain \(R\), and investigate the rigidity of certain extensions. Their goal is to provide a deeper understanding of the rigidity of affine varieties and contribute to the study of automorphism groups. In this paper, the authors improve techniques for determining the rigidity of \(k\)-domains (affine varieties) over a field of characteristic zero. They generalize the ABC theorem, study locally nilpotent derivations of simple algebraic extensions, and investigate the rigidity of certain extensions. As a result, they prove the rigidity of some quadrinomial varieties and Pham-Brieskorn hypersurfaces.
