Consider a positive integer \(N\) and let \(X_0(N)\) be the classical modular curve of level \(N\) which is defined over \(\mathbb{Q}\) and \(J_0(N)\) denote the Jacobian variety of \(X_0(N)\). Consider the winding quotient of \(J_0(N)\) defined as: \(J_e:=J_0(N)/I_e J_0(N)\), an abelian variety over \(\mathbb{Q}\) which is the largest quotient of \(J_0(N)\) whose \(L\)-function does not vanish at \(s=1\) and satisfies that every optimal quotient of \(J_0(N)\) whose \(L\)-function does not vanish at \(s=1\) factors through the winding quotient. Assume once for all that \(N\) is a square-free positive integer. The author obtains a formula for the rational number \(L(J_e,1)/\Omega(J_e)\), where \(\Omega(J_e)\) the real volume of \(J_e\). In particular, such description may be compared with the expected one by the Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture, and the author makes explicit such comparison when \(N\) is a prime number or a product of two primes, supporting, for example, the trivially of the Manin constant in such quotients. To prove the formula for \(L(J_e,1)/\Omega(J_e)\), the author follows a similar proof used in the case that \(N\) is prime [the author, C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I, Math. 328, No. 5, 369--374 (1999; Zbl 0955.11019)], and solves technical complications in the square-free case, in particular the paper is a generalization of the PhD thesis of the author [The Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer formula for modular abelian varieties of analytic rank zero. Berkeley, CA: University California (PhD Thesis) (2000)] which was restricted to the case that \(N\) was a product of two distinct primes.
