The author studies the problem of classifying, up to equivalence, the G- invariant complex structures on a coset space \(M=G/U\) where G is a connected compact semisimple Lie group and U the centralizer of a toric subgroup in G. G/U is a compact simply connected real analytic manifold which carries G-invariant complex structures. If U is a maximal torus in G or if U is a subgroup with 1-dimensional center then M has a unique G- invariant complex structure (Borel-Hirzebruch). The author considers the irreducible case, i.e. the case where G is a simple compact Lie group: the G-invariant complex structures are classified on an irreducible compact simple connected manifold \(M=G/U\). Each equivalence class of such structures gives rise to a pair of simple root systems \((\pi,\pi_ 0)\), \(\pi_ 0\) a subsystem of \(\pi\), \((\pi,\pi_ 0)\) uniquely determined up to equivalence. The author gives the classification of the pairs \((\pi,\pi_ 0)\) associated with G/U. This is used in particular to compute the number of equivalence classes of G-invariant complex structures on M.
