If b is not an isolated point on the boundary of a domain D in the extended complex plane \({\bar {\mathbb{C}}}\), then it is shown that \(C(f,b)=C_{\partial D}(f,b)\) for a conformal mapping f: \(D\to {\bar {\mathbb{C}}}\); here C(f,b) is the ordinary cluster set and \(C_{\partial D}(f,b)\) is the boundary cluster set of f at b, respectively. If D is the unit disk, then it is shown that \(C(f,b)=C_{\partial D\setminus E}(f,b)\) holds whenever \(E\subset \partial D\) satisfies one of the following conditions: (a) E is of linear measure zero, (b) E is an \({\mathcal O}_{AD}\)-set, (c) the logarithmic measure of \(\partial D\setminus E\) is infinite at each point of E near b, (d) the capacity density of \(\partial D\setminus E\) is positive at each point of E near b. The author also derives several generalizations of a classical theorem of Lindelöf, see [\textit{R. Nevanlinna}, Analytic functions (1970; Zbl 0199.125)], for conformal mappings. Most of the proofs are based on the method of extremal length; the methods to deal with boundary points b at which \(\partial D\) is thin are due to Ahlfors, Beurling, Collingwood, Grötzsch, and Martio.
