The authors study the Riemann problem for the Euler system in two spatial dimensions for compressible gas. Part of the angle is vacuum, the rest is occupied by still gas of constant density. The equation of state is nonlinear, subject to some convexity restriction. The problem is rewritten in self-similar variables and exact solutions are described as interaction planar rarefaction and shock waves.
