The paper is an attractive and useful survey of various representations (linear and permutation) of groups with presentation \(\langle y,z ; y^m=z^n=(yz)^2=1\rangle\) known as the triangle groups. The emphasis is on their connection with regular maps on surfaces and with symmetric graphs. The basic material is complemented with several interesting applications in the area of maps and graphs.
