Fekete potentials and polynomials for continua (Q5931943): Difference between revisions

The paper deals with Chebyshev-type quadrature on compact sets \(\Gamma\) in \(\mathbb R^d\) with associated probability measure \(\mu\). One looks for good approximate formulas of the form \[ \int_{\Gamma}f(x)d\mu (x) \approx \frac 1N \sum_{k=1}^N f(\zeta_k),\quad \zeta_1,\dots ,\zeta_N \in \Gamma. \] The problem is to find \(N\)-tuples \(Z_N\) of nodes \(\zeta_k\) for which the \textit{quadrature remainder} \(R(f,Z_N) := \int_{\Gamma} f d\mu - \frac 1N \sum_{k=1}^N f(\zeta_k)\) is \textit{very small} for a large class of functions f (e.g. for the class of polynomials up to a high degree related to N). The paper is strictly related to the former article by \textit{J. Korevaar} and \textit{L. Bos} [J. Anal. Math. 75, 233-246 (1998; Zbl 0924.41020)].
