Cyclic cohomology and algebra extensions (Q910472): Difference between revisions

The author constructs a spectral sequence to study cyclic cohomology for an extension \(A=R/I\) of algebras. If \(R\) is free this yields a description of the cyclic cohomology of \(A\) in terms of traces defined on \(R\) or powers of \(I\): Viewing the Connes classes constructed by \textit{A. Connes} [Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Etud. Sci. 62, 41-144 (1985; Zbl 0592.46056)] of degree \(2n\) or \(2n+1\) as homomorphisms \[ HC_{2n}(A)\to R/(I^{n+1}+[R,R])\quad HC_{2n+1}(A)\to I^{n+1}/[I,I^ n] \] the main result shows that these maps are injective, if \(R\) is free, with a precise description of the image.
