\textit{J.-X. Lu} [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 35, 140-146, 147-155, 156-182 (1983; Zbl 0514.05018, Zbl 0514.05019, Zbl 0514.05020); Ser. A 37, 136- 163, 164-188, 189-192 (1984; Zbl 0545.05014, Zbl 0545.05015, Zbl 0557.05012)] proved that large sets of disjoint Steiner triple systems on \(v\) points exist for all \(v\equiv 1\) or 3(mod 6) except for six values of \(v\) \((v\in\{141,283,501,789,1501,2365\})\). These were partially dealt within a paper which was left incomplete at Lu's death. Using the same combinatorial structures as defined by Lu but a different procedure the author completes the six missing cases. The new constructions enable Lu's original proof to be substantially shortened.
