Strong submultiplicativity of the Poincaré metric (Q524738): Difference between revisions

The authors give a full and direct proof of the following inequality due to \textit{A. Yu. Solynin} [J. Math. Sci., New York 95, No. 3, 1 (1997; Zbl 0931.30028); translation from Zap. Nauchn. Semin. POMI 237, 129--147 (1997); J. Math. Sci., New York 166, No. 2, 210--213 (2010; Zbl 1288.35208); translation from Zap. Nauchn. Semin. POMI 371, 149--156 (2009)] which relates the Poincaré metrics \(\lambda\) of two hyperbolic domains with the metric of their union and their intersection. Let \(\Omega_1\) and \(\Omega_2\) be domains in \(\hat{\mathbb C}\) such that \(\Omega_1 \cap \Omega_2 \neq \emptyset\). Suppose that \(\Omega_1 \cup \Omega_2\) is hyperbolic. Then \( \lambda_{\Omega_1}(z) \lambda_{\Omega_2}(z) \geq \lambda_{\Omega_1 \cup \Omega_2}(z)\;\lambda_{\Omega_1 \cap \Omega_2}(z)\) for all \(z \in \Omega_1 \cup \Omega_2\).
