The main objective of the authors is to study the effect of the changes (perturbations) in the parameters \(\beta_ k\) and \(\gamma_ k\) which take place in the recurrence relation satisfied by a given set of orthogonal polynomials, namely: \[ P_ n(x)=(x-\beta_{n-1})P_{n- 1}(x)-\gamma_{n-1}P_{n-2}(x). \] The following three types of changes are considered separately: \[ (i)\quad \beta_ k\to \beta_ k+\mu,\quad (ii)\quad \gamma_ k\to \lambda \gamma_ k\text{ and } (iii)\quad \beta_ k\to \beta_ k+\mu,\quad \gamma_ k\to \lambda \gamma_ k, \] where \(k\geq 1\) stands for a fixed integer while \(\lambda\) and \(\mu\) are given constants. They give the expressions of the Stieltjes functions, differential equations, new (perturbed) polynomials as well as the distribution of zeros.
