In a recent paper [SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 33, No. 3, 1048-1064 (1996; Zbl 0860.65138)], \textit{H. Kaneko} and \textit{Y. Xu} analyzed the superconvergence properties of iterated Galerkin methods for Hammerstein integral equations. In the paper under review, this analysis is extended to deal with the analogous properties of iterated collocation methods for such nonlinear integral equations with smooth or weakly singular kernels. Particular attention is then given to the fully discretized version of these collocation schemes. Three numerical examples are used to illustrate the superconvergence results. The authors do not seem to be aware of the extensive work by A. Pedas, P. Uba and G. Vainikko on collocation methods for weakly singular Fredholm integral equations (including nonlinear and multidimensional problems); the monograph by \textit{G. Vainikko} [Multidimensional weakly singular integral equations (1993; Zbl 0789.65097)] may be consulted for references to this work.
