Fix a hyperplane \(H\subset \mathbb {P}^r\), \(r\ge 3\), and an irreducible family \(\Gamma\) of curves \(C\subset \mathbb{P}^r\) transversal to \(C\). For each \(C\in \Gamma\) the set \(S:= C\cap H\) has an interesting Hilbert function and the game is to compute it when \(C\) is general in \(\Gamma\). \(S\) is said to have maximal rank if all restriction maps \(H^0(\mathcal {O}_H(t)) \to H^0(\mathcal {O}_S(t))\) are either injective or surjective, i.e. if \(h^0(\mathcal {I}_{S,H}(t)) = \max\{\binom{r+t-1}{r-1} -\#S,0\}\) for all \(t>0\). This is an important property of \(\Gamma\) and it is proved here when \(\Gamma\) is the component of the Hilbert schemes of smooth curves of \(\mathbb{P}^r\) with gived degree \(d\) and genus \(g\) and general moduli. The same holds for disjoint unions of elements of \(\Gamma\) (except for a few exceptional cases with \(t=2\)) and this added generality was crucial for his proof of the Maximal Rank Conjecture for curves with general moduli ([\textit{E. Larson}, ``The maximal rank conjecture'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1711.04906}; ``Degenerations of curves in projective space and the maximal rank conjecture'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1809.05980}].
