Let \(\mathbb{H}\) denote the ring of real quaternions and suppose that \(X\) is an unknown \(m\times n\) matrix over \(\mathbb{H}.\) Consider the eight equations \(A_{1}X=C_{1}\), \(XB_{1}=C_{2}\), \(A_{2}X=C_{3}\), \(XB_{2}=C_{4}\), \(A_{4} XB_{4}=C_{5}\) and \(A_{5}XB_{5}=C_{6}\) where the \(A_{i},B_{j}\) and \(C_{k}\) are known matrices over \(\mathbb{H}\) of suitable dimensions. The authors give necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of this system and in the case where there is a solution give the general solution for \(X\). The results are very close to those of \textit{Q.-W. Wang} et al. [Appl. Math. Comput. 198, No. 1, 209--226 (2008; Zbl 1141.15016)] where the analogous case of six equations was dealt with.
