The relation between the smoothness of a function and the speed at which it can be approximated by polynomials is of great interest in constructive approximation theory. Classical one-dimensional results are for instance theorems of Jackson type and the maximal convergence theorems of Bernstein and Walsh. In this paper, the author extends the theory of maximal convergence of Walsh to functions of squared modulus holomorphic type. Several maximal convergence theorems are proved and various applications are presented.
