The \(F\)-splitting ratio, \(r_F(R)\), of a Noetherian local ring of positive characteristic is a measure of the asymptotic free rank of the modules \(F_*^e(R)\) which agrees with the \(F\)-signature of \(R\) when the splitting dimension of \(R\) equals the dimension of \(R\); however, positive \(F\)-signature detects when the ring is strongly \(F\)-regular whereas positive \(F\)-splitting ratio detects \(F\)-pure rings. The authors first generalize the notion of the splitting dimension of a Noetherian local ring to a similar notion for a finitely generated module \(M\) which they call the splitting rate of \(M\), sr\((M)\), and they define the \(F\)-splitting ratio of \(M\) again as a limit of a quotient of the free rank of \(F^e_*(M)\) by \(p^{e\ \mathrm{sr}(M)}\) and their first main result shows that this limit exists when \(R\) is an \(F\)-finite local ring. Unlike many asymptotic measures in positive characteristic such as \(F\)-signature and Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity, \(P \rightarrow r_F(R_P)\) is not a lower semi-continuous function and the authors exhibit a class of \(F\)-finite rings \(R\) for which this function is not lower semi-continuous. Their second main result shows that both the splitting rate of \(M\) and the \(F\)-splitting ratio of \(M\) are also well-defined for non-local \(F\)-finite rings. With the new techniques, they also recapture their result in \textit{A. De Stefani} et al. [J. Algebra 610, 773--792 (2022; Zbl 07588378)]: If \(R\) is an \(F\)-finite, \(F\)-pure domain, \(\mathcal{D}\) is a Cartier algebra the global \(F\)-signature of the pair \((R, \mathcal{D})\) is positive if and only if \((R,\mathcal{D})\) is strongly \(F\)-regular.
