A group \(G\) is said to satisfy the permutizer condition \(P\) if, for each proper subgroup \(H\), there is an element \(g\in G\setminus H\) such that \(H\langle g\rangle=\langle g\rangle H\). Finite groups with \(P\) were studied by the authors [in J. Algebra 191, No. 2, 686-703 (1997; Zbl 0880.20015)]. In this paper they investigate the structure of infinite soluble \(P\)-groups which are either finitely generated or minimax. The main results are the following: (a) Let \(G\) be a soluble-by-finite minimax group satisfying the permutizer condition. Then each rationally irreducible factor \(F\) of \(G\) has order \(4\) or a prime, and if \(| F|=4\), then \(G/C_G(F)\simeq S_3\). (b) A finitely generated soluble-by-finite group satisfying the permutizer condition is polycyclic.
