Let \((M, d)\) be a metric space. A mapping \(T:M\to M\) is uniformly asymptotically regular (UAR) if \(\limsup d(T^n+1 x, T^n (x)) = 0\). \(T\) is said to be affine if \(T(ax +by) = aT(x) + bT(y)\) for every \(x, y \in M\), \(a, b >\) or \(= 0\), \(a + b = 1\). It is shown that an averaged affine self map defined on a convex subset of a convex, bounded subset of a Banach space is UAR. It is also shown that there are no nontrivial surjective UAR mappings on a metric space. In particular, it is shown that a jointly continuous left amenable or left reversible semigroup generated by firmly nonexpansive mappings on a bounded \(t\)-compact subset of a Banach space has a common fixed point. A qualitative complement to the Markov-Kakutani theorem is given.
