Almost periodicity in time of solutions of the KdV equation (Q1626578): Difference between revisions

The Cauchy problem for the Korteweg-de Vries equation \(u_t-6uu_x+u_{xxx}=0\) with almost periodic initial data \(u(x,0)=V(x)\) is studied. Moreover, the initial data \(V\) considered are those for which the associated Schrödinger operator is absolutely continuous and has a spectrum that is not too thin in a suitable sense. The existence, uniqueness, and almost periodicity in time of solutions are proved which establishes a conjecture of \textit{P. Deift} [Contemp. Math. 458, 419--430 (2008; Zbl 1147.15305)] for this class of initial data. The result is shown to apply to all small analytic quasiperiodic initial data with Diophantine frequency vector.
