The aim of the present paper is to investigate some connections between the size of the unimodular point spectrum of a bounded linear operator \(T\) on a separable (complex) Banach space \(X\) and the behaviour of its iterates. In particular, the authors manage to study increasing sequences of positive integers \((n_k)_{k\geq 1}\) with regard to the property that every bounded linear operator \(T\) acting on a separable Banach (or Hilbert) space with \(\sup_{k\geq 1}\| T^{n_k}\|< \infty\) has a countable set of unimodular eigenvalues. Furthermore, counterexamples to some conjectures in linear dynamics are given.
