The author considers finite-difference schemes for singularly perturbed boundary value problems: \(Tu:=-\epsilon u''+b(u)u'+c(x,u)=0,\quad x\in I=[0,1],\) \(Bu:=(u(0),u(1))=(U_ 0,U_ 1),\) where \(\epsilon\) is a perturbation parameter, \(\epsilon\in (0,1]\). The schemes have fitting factors which guarantee their uniform stability with respect to the perturbation parameter. Various schemes are compared numerically to conclude that (a) the schemes stable in the maximum norm are not superior to the schemes for which we can prove the stability ``only'' in the discrete \(L^ 1\)-norm; (b) the exponentially fitted scheme is not superior to the other schemes which are much simpler; (c) there is a class of two-parameter problems for which the schemes of Samarskij type show better results than the other schemes.
