The authors propose a systematic approach to extrapolation algorithms and their construction and study the role played by error estimates and annihilation difference operators in the construction of extrapolation processes. This approach leads to a better understanding of the mechanism of extrapolation algorithms and gives a framework where all the processes actually known can be included and also provides new algorithms and new theoretical results.
