The paper under review studies compactness problem appearing in the moduli space of stable log J-holomorphic curves based on log Gromov-Witten theory developed by Gross-Siebert and Abramovich-Chen. Firstly, the author introduces the notion of prelog J-holomorphic map which contains only matching condition of contact orders at the node, then exerts nontrivial conditions describing deformation/obstruction information to give a definition of a log map. Secondly, motivated by Gromov compactness theorem, the author builds up a log enhanced version of Gromov compactness theorem and gives a compactness result for (virtually singular) log moduli space. The key point is to study the limiting behavior of the rescaling and gluing parameters explicitly. The comparison result shows that the log compactification is really different from relative compactification and there is a projection from relative compactification to log compactification. Especially, in the process of compactifying the moduli space of log J-holomorphic curves, it is worth mentioning that log compactification does not change the target while relative compactification modifies the target by using expanded degenerations of the targets. Finally, the deformation space of log J-holomorphic maps is described by Fredholm operator theory and the normal cone which is the space of gluing parameters can be identified with an affine toric variety. In conclusion, the paper under review presents a new effective ``geometrically minimal'' compactification result for moduli space of J-holomorphic curves relative to an arbitrary simple normal crossing(SNC) symplectic divisor.
