An impact oscillator consisting of an inverted pendulum moving between two rigid walls is under consideration. By using a nonsmooth version of the Melnikov method, the authors investigate the appeareance of subharmonics solutions near some periodic motions (solutions of type I, that is, with impacts only on one of the two walls) of the unperturbed system.
