This article introduces the notion of a special complex manifold to describe complex manifolds \((M, J)\) with a flat torsionfree connection \(\nabla\) such that \(\nabla J\) is symmetric. This allows for an extrinsic realisation of all simply connected special complex, symplectic or Kähler manifolds. These three types of geometry are shown to be completely solvable in the sense that they are locally defined by free holomorphic data.
