The multiplier ideals are a modified form of adjoint ideals which have to do with adjoint curves. The multiplier ideals are known to be complete (= integrally closed) and the question is if, conversely, every complete ideal is a multiplier ideal. The authors show that if \(R\) is a two dimensional regular local ring \((R,M)\) such that \(R/M\) is algebraically closed, then every complete ideal is a multiplier ideal in a somewhat more general sense. The idea is to use some geometric considerations to establish an algebraic criterion for a complete ideal, in a regular local ring specified above, to be a multiplier ideal and then to verify that in that specific ring that criterion is met. The verification uses the fact that if \(J\) is a complete ideal then \(J\) is uniquely a product of simple complete ideals in a two dimensional regular local ring, result and terminology are due to Zariski which can be found in the well known book: \textit{O. Zariski} and \textit{P. Samuel} [``Commutative algebra'', vol. 2 (1976; Zbl 0322.13001); appendix 5]. For a good introduction to the various approaches to the notion of multiplier ideals the reader may consult \textit{R. K. Lazarsfeld}'s new book: ``Positivity in algebraic geometry'' (2004)].
