To analyze the type of a hypersurface in \(\mathbb{C}^n\) (the maximal order of contact with one-dimensional varieties), the author uses the Newton polyhedron of a local defining function. The main theorem states that a certain quantity computable from the Newton diagram is equal to the type if and only if the singular type and the regular type agree. Additionally, the author formulates a nondegeneracy condition that is sufficient for equality of these three quantities. The author's technique recovers many known cases in which the regular type matches the singular type and easily produces new examples.
