The paper considers several examples of complex hyperplane arrangements, with a focus on their characteristic varieties. \textit{A. Libgober and S. Yuzvinsky} [Adv. Stud. Pure Math. 27, 169-184 (2000; Zbl 0974.32022)] posed the question of whether the characteristic varieties of a complex hyperplane arrangement may have positive-dimensional translated components. In this paper Suciu gives a simple example where this happens, namely, the \(B_3\) arrangement with one plane deleted. He also gives an example of two arrangements having isomorphic resonance varieties but nonisomorphic characteristic varieties.
