The paper studies stability properties of infinite heterogeneous networks, consisting of input-to-state stable (ISS) subsystems of possibly infinite dimension. It is shown that the network is ISS under a certain small-gain-type condition on the gain operator. For the case of finite networks of nonlinear systems, this new condition is equivalent to the so-called strong small-gain condition. For infinite networks with a linear gain operator, the condition corresponds to the requirement of the spectral radius of the gain operator to be less than one. Importantly, the proposed theorems do not require any linearity or contractivity assumptions for the gains that makes the results truly nonlinear. The developed framework is rather general and allows for couplings of infinite-dimensional systems of different types, and can be applied to the stability analysis of ODE-PDE, delay-PDE, and PDE-PDE cascades. Finally, the efficient criteria are provided for the input-to-state stability of infinite networks with linear gains, governed by linear and homogeneous gain operators, respectively. All the results are derived using the trajectory formulation, in contrast to existing results on the ISS of infinite networks, in which the Lyapunov-type formulation is used.
