In this article, the authors treat the absolutely simple abelian surfaces which arise as the Jacobians of quotients \(X\) of the modular curve \(X_0(N)\) by a group of Atkin-Lehner operators. \textit{Y. Hasegawa} has determined the complete list of such \(X\) of genus 2; 28 of them have absolutely simple Jacobian \(J\) [Proc. Japan Acad., Ser. A 71, No. 10, 235--239 (1995; Zbl 0873.11040)]. They show that the Shafarevich-Tate group of the Jacobian \(J\) is trivial and verify the strong Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for \(J\). They announce that the details and extension of the result will be presented in a forthcoming paper.
