On a compact Kähler manifold the \((1,0)\)-part of a harmonic 1-form is holomorphic; conversely, for every holomorphic \((1,0)\)-form, its corresponding real part is harmonic. In general, this is not true on compact Hermitian manifolds. In this paper, on compact balanced Hermitian manifolds the author finds necessary and sufficient conditions that the \((1,0)\)-part of a harmonic 1-form is holomorphic. Obstructions are obtained to the existence of harmonic 1-forms, \(\partial\)-harmonic \((1,0)\)-forms and holomorphic \((1,0)\)-forms in terms of the Ricci tensors with respect to the Riemannian curvature and the Hermitian curvature. Balanced Hermitian manifolds are Hermitian manfiolds with a co-closed fundamental form. This class of manifolds includes the class of Kähler manifolds, but also many important classes of non-Kähler manifolds, such as twistor spaces of oriented Riemannian 4-manifolds, 1-dimensional families of Kähler manifolds, etc.
