Quasi-tilted finite dimensional algebras have been introduced by Happel, Reiten and Smalø ([\textit{D. Happel} et al., Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 575, 88 p. (1996; Zbl 0849.16011)]). Such algebras have global dimension at most 2 and satisfy the so-called shod property ([\textit{F. U. Coelho} and \textit{M. A. Lanzilotta}, Manuscr. Math. 100, No. 1, 1--11 (1999; Zbl 0966.16001)]), which means that the indecomposable finite dimensional \(A\)-modules have projective or injective dimension at most one. Shod algebras which are not quasi-tilted have global dimension three. In the paper under review, shod algebras are characterized as quasi-silted algebras, that is, algebras which arise as endomorphism rings of a two-term silting complex in the bounded derived category of an Ext-finite hereditary abelian category. Silted algebras which are not tilted thus coincide with shod algebras of global dimension three.
