In this paper, by using the Leray-Schauder topological degree for locally compact operators on open and possibly unbounded sets, the author investigates multiple positive solutions of a class of Sturm-Liouille boundary problems with conflicting nonlinearities. As an application, radially symmetric solutions of elliptic PDEs on annular domains are given. This kind of boundary value problems cover the classical superlinear equations. To some extent, this paper extends the existing results.
