A conservative local discontinuous Galerkin method for the solution of nonlinear Schrödinger equation in two dimensions (Q681929): Difference between revisions

The authors extend the local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) method to solve the two-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. The idea is to introduce a new variable to rewrite the NLS equation as a first-order system, which is solved by the LDG method with properly designed numerical flux. Mass and energy conservation is proved for the semi-discrete scheme for various choices of numerical fluxes. Two types of fully-discrete schemes are proposed: one is the Crank-Nicolson (CN) scheme; and the other one is the Krylov implicit integration factor (IIF) method. The CN scheme is proved to preserve the discrete mass and energy conservation. There is no theoretical conservation analysis for the IIF method. However, numerical results obtained by the IIF method demonstrate the discrete mass and energy conservation property, the optimal convergence rate and the capability of capturing the blow-up phenomenon of NLS equation.
