Let \(A\) be a complex square matrix. The authors show that \(A = SU\), where \(S\) is a complex symmetric matrix and \(U\) is a unitary matrix. The factor \(S\) can be chosen in infinitely many ways. They use this factorization to give a characterization of conjugate-normal matrices.
