The author computes the cyclic homology of a polynomial algebra over the integers in terms of de Rham cohomology. This generalizes a results of Loday and Quillen for smooth commutative algebras over the rationals. Finally this work is interpreted geometrically by showing that the cyclic homology of a certain polynomial algebra is isomorphic to the \(S^ 1\)- equivariant homology of the free loop space on SU(n).
