    A generalized Hessenberg matrix is a square matrix, all of whose submatrices, strictly below the diagonal are of rank less or equal to one, at least one having rank one. This class is preserved by several operations. The structure, in particular the zero pattern, of the matrices in this class, is studied in detail.
