    Sur une variété compacte \(V_n\) \((n\geq 3)\) possédant une métrique \(g\) de courbure scalaire \(R= 1\), il existe \(V\) un ``voisinage'' de 1 tel que tout \(k\in V\) est la courbure scalaire \(\widetilde R\) d'une métrique \(\widetilde g\) conforme à \(g\) \((\widetilde g\in [g])\), ceci pour toute variété sauf la sphère: ce sont les fameuses conditions nécessaires de Kazdan et Warner. Pour les variétés compactes à bord P. Cherrin a imaginé le problème suivant: trouver \(\widetilde g\in[g]\), le bord ayant une courbure moyenne prescrite \(\widetilde H\), telle que \(\widetilde R= k\) donnée sur \(V\). Des phenomènes, analogues à ceux relatés plus haut, se produisent sur la demi-sphère. Sur \(S_3\) dans l'article de Bahri-Coron une nouvelle méthode était exposée et une condition suffisante établie. Les AA. étudient le problème de Cherrin dans le cas de la demi-sphère \(S^+_4\) avec \(\widetilde H\equiv 0\) et \(K\in C^3\) une fonction positive n'ayant que des points critiques non dégénérés \(a\) où \(\Delta K(a)+ 12 K(a) H(a,a)\neq 0\) (\(H(x,y)\) est la partie régulière de la fonction de Green du laplacien conforme). De plus on suppose qu'un point \(a\in\partial S^+_4\) où \(\nabla_TK(a)= 0\) alors \({\partial K\over\partial\nu}(a)< 0\). La dimension 4 est très particulière, phénomènes d'interaction et de self-interaction se superposent, d'où la prescrite de \(H(x,y)\), par rapport à l'article de Bahri-Loron. La démonstration se fait par l'absurde: on suppose que le problème n'a pas de solution. On exprime la caractéristique d'Euler-Poincaré en fonction des indices de Morse de \(K\) en certaines points critiques, ceux où une certaine matrice faite avec \(\Delta K\), \(K\) et \(H\) est definie positive. Presupposons pour hypothèse que l'espression trouvée pour \(X\) n'est pas égale à 1, on aboutit à une contraction. La démonstration passe par l'étude des points critiques à l'infini de la fonctionnelle du problème (la méthode de Bahri-Coron).
